Local Health System Integration Act, 2006

September 22, 2013

The province of Ontario has obviously been planning the amalgamation of hospitals for some time. I had been unaware of these plans and am still ignorant of the functions of the LHIN given its authority by Local Health System Integration Act, 2006. But I believe that the word “Integration” in the Act’s title and in the Local Health Integration Network label confirm my surmise that Ontario has been planning under the authority of the Local Health System Integration Act, 2006 to implement the integration of hospital functions to spend less tax money. The recent uproar over amalgamating/integrating Scarborough hospitals’ services and staff though overwhelmingly opposed by doctors and clients at a Feb. 2012 meeting is unlikely to stop the relentless drive to amalgamate for as long as the Local Health System Integration Act, 2006 continues to express the will of voters’ elected representatives, and those able to afford private health insurance.
