The New Mayor Despite The Municipal Elections Act

November 30, 2013 am

In an Online Globe and Mail article I learned that “media” finally got a mayor of Toronto that they like: “He’s articulate, centrist, congenial.” His name is Norm Kelley, the deputy mayor who was elected councillor in 2010 when Mr. Ford a former councillor of 10 years was elected mayor now identified as 1/2 mayor by Mr. Hume of the Toronto Star after most city of Toronto councillors took his powers and gave his title to Mr. Kelley.

Saying the “media” got what they wanted is a kind of figure of speech, for “media” broadcasters and publishers are simply employed to do a job, just as everyone on Canadian television who obediently wears a plastic poppy about 2 weeks before November 12 when the television poppies disappear.

So I’ve always believed that attacks on Mayor Ford by the “media” did not originate with the individual writers and news agencies repeating (reiterating) charges such as look Mr.Ford knocks over women; admits crack use: talks of oral sex; gets drunk; associates with criminals; appears in a video using a low grade of cocaine favoured by those who can’t afford cocaine itself, or marijuana; a video still seen only by Gawker the Toronto Star and a recently reported police officer. So as I learned more about Mayor Ford to supplement my vague awareness that he was a Conservative I eventually learned that Canada’s Federal Conservative finance minister was his first supporter and that his father had been elected to the Ontario legislature as a Mike Harris Conservative, I began suspecting an undercurrent of political party themes beyond municipal issues about how municipal taxes are spent and the relationship among the city of Toronto and its boroughs amalgamated as the Greater Toronto Area.

Hence this article in today’s Globe and Mail aids my understanding of the undermining of Mr. Ford’s credibility with anti Ford actions that go way back to 2011 when I received a flier in my mailbox urging me to establish a Twitter account to tweet something bad about Mayor Ford; then his conflict of interest case, his refusing “free money” to finance a gangs research project, the publicly unseen spring 2013 video and finally the October 31 to November 13 non-stop media lashing that culminated in city council giving his mayoral  powers to former federal Liberal, Mr. Kelley ” a one-time MP under Pierre Trudeau” .
