Ways to Make Money

March 29, 2014

Yesterday the big story on BNN, Canada’s Business News Network, was that leader of Canada’s own Blackberry, formerly RIM of Waterloo Ontario, Mr. Chen(director of Wells Fargo and Walt Disney) who has been selling off many of RIM’s/Blackberry’s assets to make it a leaner-meaner Canadian electronics firm(like Nortel maybe). Mr. Chen’s wanting to keep Blackberry a Canadian company even though he’s an American born in China reminds me a bit of that former Suncor head, tar sands, and Petro Canada takeover champ, Mr. George, the Colorado bred officer of the Order of Canada.

Sorry for repeating myself: but I saw an expert in the ways of money on BNN agreeing with everyone else who knows a lot about money talking about being convinced that the United states will keep buying its own governments bonds at a rate of 85 billion dollars worth every day for as long as forever even though the econome isn’t behavin’ as it should; wages aren’t buying consumables at a rate to match stock prices. But everyone not a money diviner knows why this bond buying- some call it money printing – since the exporting jobs started- isn’t working: some say it’s even undermining the nations production. But no money maven will say the mystery that everybody with no financial literacy knows like their own nose: some one’s been shipping their jobs away like the job the lady who measures drapes for Sears because she lost a job to somebody in India. And German pianos they make in China like a whole lot of other pianos including those that once originated in Canada, and all those traditional American piano makes, and American Capresso coffee grinders, and Ipads and IPhone: all kinds of technology, toy trains and sophisticated telescopes, and clothes and on and on and on: Indonesia, Korea, Bangladesh, Vietnam, communist China non communist Taiwan.

Ain’t it funny how job cut backs have been taking place in Ontario since the 1970’s just as immigration was becoming impossible to not notice, workers grown scarce and productivity wanting, just after Richard Nixon a right winger Republican was being hailed for making his historic visit to communist China the capitalists rights capital, where they make just about everything now, except maybe a plastic bag or the stuff that clogs our mail from merchants selling stuff from China or from some elected someone praising their party’s creating jobs despite the mergers and acquisitions lost in stories about trade, war, xenophobia, consuming cultural delicacies, capacinos, lattes ethnic and gender equality our planet warming while money goes to the best at the top as Ontario quietly passes a law where the term “integration” enforces the cut backs of jobs to trim the cost of wages.

While studying Mr. George’s Feb. 2013 book about how he as CEO of Suncor led the way in extracting oil from Canada’s tar sands and in Suncor’s taking over the crown corporation Petro-Canada in 2009 and producing job losses, I couldn’t help thinking that the George-led takeover, resembled the hospital CEO-led plan refresh authorized by Ontario’s 2006 Local Health Integration Act that would merge patient care in two Scarborough hospitals and lead to job losses.
